August 18, 2019 Grafton Illinois Meeting, USA
Sunday, August 18, 2019, from 1-4pm located in Grafton, Illinois. Knotty-by-Nature. Check out their website and Facebook page for more information. Thank you Garry Roux for organizing this event on such short notice!
All,
On Sunday, the St Louis area IWCS members went to Grafton, Illinois and toured Knotty By Nature Hardwood, a specialty wood shop with a large selection of common and exotic live edge slabs, lumber, antiques, and beautiful wood products, most pieces designed and handcrafted by veterans and cancer survivors.
Owner Dan Bechtold took the time to show us all around. I’m not sure how he multitasked like he did, as he took time out here and there to make a few sales! His shop was under water for 42 days May through June of this year. It was hard to believe, but the water lines on the windows told the story for sure.
His resin coated tabletops including the walnut burl that was out of a creek bed for over a hundred years, cedar, eucalyptus, monkeypod, and the walnut top with the gorgeous pearl white river were all showstoppers just to name a few.
We ended the day with a late lunch at Beasly Fish just down the road.
Many thanks Garry for setting up this event, we all had a wonderful day. We had 16 members and 2 guests in attendance. Thanks to everyone for the great turnout with just one week notice!
